About Our Preschool
At The Owl's Nest, we believe that childhood is not a race-but a gentle, wonder-filled journey. Nestling in a nurturing, home environment, our preschool is a place where children are seen, heard, and celebrated for who they are. We are more than a school- we are a sanctuary for learning, discovery, and connection
Our philosophy centers around the whole child, honoring each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. Inspired by rhythms of nature and rooted in research-based practices, our programs blend Montessori, Charlotte Mason, and play-based approaches to create a rich, intentional learning experience.
Just as owls observe the world with wisdom and patience, we cultivate mindful learning by encouraging curiosity, kindness and confidence. Whether we are exploring the outdoors, reading a beloved story, or gathering together in the "The Nest" for together time, every moment is designed to support your child's natural development.
Our preschool program runs September through May with breaks aligned with the Piedmont Public School Calendar. We have shared days off with PPS.

Our Curriculum
Roots of Reading
Children build a strong foundation in literacy through phonics-based learning, hands-on language exploration, and rich read-aloud using living books that inspire wonder and understanding.
Wonder and Why
Through playful investigations and hands-on discovery, children explore numbers, patterns, nature, and scientific thinking as they learn to ask questions, test ideas, and make sense of their world.
Creative Hollow
Children express themselves freely through open-ended art, music, storytelling, and movement, nurturing creativity, confidence, and connection, in a joyful and sensory-rich environment.
Nature's Notebook
With boots on the ground and eyes on the world, children connect with the seasons, study living things, and cultivate curiosity and care for the earth through outdoor exploration.
Meet The Teacher
Alicia is the founder and primary educator at The Owl's Nest, bringing over 25 years of experience in education as a teacher, instructional coach, instructional specialist, and special education specialist.
As a licensed educator with a Master's in Education, Alicia is also a mother of seven and former foster parent, which gives her a deep, personal understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and the power of nurturing environments. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in whole-child development, nature-based learning, and the belief that every child deserves to be deeply known and fully engaged.
At The Owl's Nest, Alicia weaves together her expertise in early childhood education with her passion for gentle, intentional teaching-creating a warm, wonder-filled space where children grow strong roots and wide wings.
